August 7th is Purple Heart Day in Franklin

The town of Franklin, commemorates Purple Heart Day on August 7th each year, on National Purple Heart Day, honoring those town veterans who are recipients of the Purple Heart.
The Purple Heart Medal is awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy, and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action. It is specifically a combat decoration.


This month, at the August 2nd Veterans’ Coffee Social at 10 a.m. at the Franklin Senior Center, 10 Daniel McCahill St., Franklin, Franklin’s purple heart recipients will be recognized.
