Light Up Franklin 2023 Set for New Year’s Eve
Luminaries to Be Lit at 6 p.m. December 31st for 3rd Year
Boy Scouts of America Troop 126 has begun a tradition in Franklin. For the third year, on Saturday, December 31st, Franklin will be transformed into a beautiful winter community, and you can join in! Come together and join in celebrating this New Year’s Eve by lining our neighborhoods with candle luminaries! Proceeds from the sale of luminaries will benefit BSA Troop 126, the Franklin Food Pantry, and the Franklin Historical Society.
“It’s pretty popular now, and a few of the neighborhoods have started doing it,” says Jaya Vijayaraghavan, volunteer for the troop. “This year, we also reached out to our local businesses to offer incentives to the Scouts for meeting sales targets, with grand prizes awarded.”
The fundraiser, she explains, helps pay for the BSA Troop 126’s monthly campouts as well as a bigger trip for older boys to the Philmont camp. “Basically, it pays for the campouts, and if we have additional money, we take the scouts locally to different activities like bowling and trampoline parks,” says Vijayaraghavan. The boys also have weekly troop meetings and do community service work, and funds raised also pays for snacks and pizza during those activities.
